This week I watched Tim Burton's version of Charlie & The Chocolate Factory and as the credits rolled by, I happened to see the name of a guy I went to high school with.
Sometimes I watch movie credits thinking I might see a familiar name - you never know. It would be unlikely to stumble across an old chum in such a way. Except for this time.
I emailed my Dad & asked him if it might be the same guy - my dad knows his dad - and sho 'nuff, it's the same guy!
And that's the biggest news I have this week besides my sugarless diet. Wait, no, that's not true. Alec Baldwin called David, personally, to tell him he was outside our bedroom window and that David had a nice behind.
Also, we scooped out cat boxes, ran two loads of dishes in the dishwasher AND ordered in dinner one night. We're normally not such rock stars, but this was a particularly glamorous week.

He is crazy and sometimes scares me, but I SO love A. Baldwin.
What did you think of Charlie? I liked it ... not more than the original, but for its own silliness. Didn't strike me as a groundbreakery classic like the original did, tho, despite it being closer (in some ways) to the book. And Johhny Depp doing Michael Jackson as Willy W. was an interesting choice...
Alec is my new hero. I was already a fan when I read about him supposedly calling someone a fruit salad head (on a movie set), but now he's my hero.
I think the new Charlie was okay - it really is a different experience than the original, and no one compares to Gene Wilder - but I loved the visuals, and of course, the squirrels. It was good, but I wouldn't call it great.
Even though I'd heard about Depp playing the part like another bizarre version of MJ, I didn't get that vibe at all when watching him. He seems to make it all his own thing - like Captain Jack/drunk Keith Richards. You see the inspiration behind the role, but it's all Depp.
I thought he was great and have started using, "You have GOT to stop mumbling - I can't understand a word you're saying" in meetings when someone asks me to do something I don't want to do.
